EV Charger Installation in Palmerston North & Manawatū

Thinking About Charging Your EV At Home?

A dedicated home EV charger can make charging much more convenient.

But the right charger depends on more than the vehicle itself.

Planned around your home

How far you drive, how long the car is normally parked at home, how quickly you need to recharge and what your home’s electrical installation can support all matter.

Ace Electrics can assess your home, help determine what charging setup makes sense and install the charger and associated electrical work.

Do I Need A Dedicated EV Charger?

Not everyone needs the fastest charger available.

The right charging setup depends on things like:

01

Your vehicle & routine

  • Your vehicle
  • How far you typically drive each day
  • How often you need to charge
  • How long the vehicle is normally parked at home

02

Your home & parking

  • Your existing electrical supply
  • Where the vehicle is parked

03

Your future plans

  • Whether you have or are considering solar
  • Whether another EV may be added later

For many households, the vehicle is parked at home for much longer than it actually needs to charge.

The goal is to install the charging capacity you’ll genuinely benefit from rather than simply choosing the largest charger possible.

The Ace Standard

Start With How You Drive. Not The Charger.

Before recommending an EV charger, we want to understand how you’ll actually use it.

  • How much driving do you normally do?
  • When is the vehicle at home?
  • Where do you park it?
  • How quickly do you actually need to recharge?
  • Do you expect another EV in the future?
  • Do you have solar — or are you considering it?

Then we’ll look at the electrical installation and determine an appropriate charging solution.

The right charger. The right electrical supply. Planned around the way you actually use your vehicle.

Your electrical installation

Can My House Handle An EV Charger?

That’s something we assess before the charger is installed.

Depending on your home and the charging equipment selected, the installation may involve:

  • A dedicated electrical circuit
  • Suitable electrical protection
  • Cabling to the charging location
  • Switchboard alterations where required
  • Charger mounting and connection
  • Load management where appropriate

Your switchboard does not automatically need replacing just because you're installing an EV charger.

Some homes can accommodate the charger with the existing switchboard. Others may require alterations because of the available capacity, existing equipment or space required.

We’ll assess what’s already there and explain any additional work that’s genuinely needed.

Easy to use, every day

Where Should My EV Charger Go?

Ideally, somewhere convenient for the way you normally park.

We’ll consider things such as:

  • Garage or carport location
  • Position of the vehicle’s charging port
  • Cable reach
  • Ease of everyday use
  • Exposure to weather
  • Available cable routes
  • Distance from the switchboard
  • Whether your parking arrangements may change

A charger you’ll use regularly should be easy to connect without creating unnecessary hassle every time you arrive home.

Charging speed

How Fast Will My EV Charge?

Charging speed depends on both the charger and the vehicle.

Installing a higher-capacity charger doesn’t necessarily mean every EV will charge at that full rate.

The result can depend on:

  • The vehicle’s charging capability
  • Charger capacity
  • The available electrical supply
  • Charger configuration
  • Any load-management requirements

We’ll consider these together rather than choosing equipment based on its headline charging rate alone.

Planning ahead

What About Solar?

Solar and EV charging can work well together, but you don’t need solar in order to install an EV charger.

If you already have solar, or are considering it, tell us during the EV assessment.

How much of your EV charging can come directly from solar depends on when the vehicle is connected and how much excess solar electricity your home is producing at that time.

If you’re considering both, it makes sense to think about them together.

Thinking About Another EV Or Future Changes?

Tell us now.

You might only need one charger today, but future plans can affect decisions around:

  • Charger location
  • Cabling
  • Electrical capacity
  • Load management
  • Solar
  • Battery storage
  • A second charging location

That doesn’t mean installing everything immediately.

It simply gives us the opportunity to consider future requirements while planning today’s installation.

Building Or Renovating?

If you think an EV may be in your future, it’s worth considering charging before the electrical installation is finalised.

Even if you don’t install the charger immediately, thinking about the likely parking location, cable route and electrical requirements during construction can make installation easier later.
